HEALTH CENTER TIPS
- from Georgia Schwartz, Director, Student Health Center, 4-2921
Tips for keeping winter germs at bay
• Get an annual flu shot soon. They are now available
at the Student Health Center ($15 for students, $25 for
faculty & staff).
• Wash hands thoroughly before handling food as well
as after blowing your nose, coughing, using a restroom,
or touching dirty or potentially contaminated surfaces.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, or do it in your sleeve.
• Dispose of used tissues directly in the trash.
• Avoid sharing beverages, food items or utensils, and other personal items.
• Nurture your immune system with good nutrition, enough sleep, stress
management and moderation.
Great American Smokeout Next Week
Thursday, Nov. 15 is the Great American Smokeout, a time to consider quitting, cutting back, helping a friend, or advocating for the absence of second hand smoke. If you are a smoker, or care about someone who is, handouts and other materials will be available that week in the foyer of the Student Health Center. Or watch for "Mr. UnKool" and friends who will be out and about on campus with similar items.

smoke information)
Exposure to smoking and second-hand smoke impairs the body's defenses against respiratory infection. Reduce the risk of complications from seasonal influenza by getting a flu shot at the Student Health Center or from a personal healthcare provider soon.
To reduce the health hazards of second-hand smoke, SSU policy prohibits smoking inside and within 20 feet of all campus buildings, partially enclosed walkways, outdoor eating areas, gatherings, or other areas that would unavoidably expose others to secondhand smoke.
