Richard A. Rodriguez Passes Away

Richard Rodriguez Former Counseling Center Director Richard A. Rodriguez died of natural causes on January 12. He was a dear friend and colleague to the campus community and a popular professor and mentor to students. Rodriguez served as Director of Counseling and Psychological Services from 2002 - 2004. He then took the position of Director of Counseling and Psychological Services: A Multicultural Center, at the University of Colorado at Boulder from 2004 to 2007. He had recently joined the faculty at the California School of Professional Psychology-Alliant International University in the fall of 2007.

Rodriguez's family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, February 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lemon Grove United Methodist Church, 3205 Washington St., Lemon Grove. Friends and colleagues are planning a memorial service for him on campus in the spring semester. A diversity fund to honor him and continue with his commitment to support students from diverse background will be created. The California School of Professional Psychology-Alliant International University will hold a memorial service on Friday, February 1, from 5:30 - 7 p.m., 1 Beach St., San Francisco located directly across from Pier 39. A scholarship to be administered by the Rockway Institute for students in LGBT/Latino psychology in Dr. Rodriguez's name has been established.
