Wanted: Faculty and Staff for Parent Panel
Do you have a son or daughter in college? Or are the parent of college graduates? The new student orientation program is seeking volunteers to serve on a panel for parents to discuss how best to support their children as they transition to college life. The panel will consist of faculty, staff, and current members of the SSU Family Association. The panel is from 7-8 p.m. in the Cooperage on the nights of June 16,19,23,26,30. Data Set Clients Sought for Statistics Class
Next fall, mathematics professor Cora Neal is teaching Math 367/467: Statistical Consulting and Communication and is looking for clients for students in the course. Its focus is the analysis real-world data sets. Clients come to the class at the beginning of the semester and explain how their data set was collected and what they hope to determine from it. During the semester students work in small groups, under Neal's supervision, applying statistical tools to analyze the data. At the end of the semester the client returns to the class to hear the final oral report and receive a copy of the written report. Previous clients have included the SSU Writing Center, Office of International Services, Scholarship Committee, Bellevue School District, Office of the Academic Senate and a graduate student from kinesiology. There is no fee for this service. Those with a data set that could use some analysis and is willing to be a client, should contact Neal at cora.neal@sonoma.edu.
Long-Term Care Program Application Period
A presentation on the benefits of the Long-Term Care Program will be held on June 5 during Staff Appreciation Day. Faculty are also welcome to attend, but must sign up by May 30 to ensure enough materials are available. Please contact heather.cain@sonoma.edu for information regarding this presentation.
The 2008 application period for the CalPERS Long-Term Care Program began on April 1 and ends on June 30. The program is the nation's only voluntary, self-funded, not-for-profit long-term care program. The program helps faculty and staff, as well as their family members, protect assets and lifestyles against the costs of long-term care. California public employees, schoolteachers, retirees, annuitants and their spouses, parents, parents-in-law, and adult siblings are also eligible for coverage.
