Memorial for Vivian Malmstrom, Aug. 27
Vivian Malmstrom, a co-founder of the Nursing Department, died July at her home in Bend, Oregon. She will be remembered at a gathering in the Student Union multipurpose room on Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 4:30-6 p.m. Malmstrom was a graduate of the UCSF School of Nursing, and she earned a Master's degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She worked with Mary Searight to plan an innovative program at SSU designed to meet the needs of R.N.'s who wished to work for a B.S. in Nursing. Their design was accredited by the National League of Nursing. Her generosity of spirit, her wisdom, and her ready wit made her a natural leader, cherished by colleagues and students. Her special gift for building consensus extended beyond the Nursing Department, to faculty governance where she served for many years in many capacities.
