"First Day" Welcomes New Students
"First Day" was created to welcome all new students (freshman and transfers) to academic life and is an opportunity for them to receive an official welcome from University faculty, staff and fellow students. The entire campus community is encouraged to attend. Faculty who would like to be a part of this special Convocation should meet at the Stevenson loading dock at 11:30 a.m. in regalia. The main schedule includes:
11:45 a.m. • New Student Convocation, Seawolf Gym — The New Student Convocation is a festive welcome by the faculty. It features an academic procession of faculty in their traditional ceremonial garb and a welcome to the new students by one of the recipients of the Rowland Award for Excellence in Teaching.
12:30 p.m. • Lunch with faculty and new SSU students

Son Fest Health and Fitness Festival in First Year Celebrates Rec Center, Aug. 25
Want to kick the year off with a bang? The Recreation Center invites all faculty and staff to attend the inaugural Son Fest on Monday, August 25 from 3 -7 p.m. Son Fest brings together health and fitness games and activities with local and on-campus vendors to provide one of the greatest health and fitness festivals the campus has ever seen. Come experience all the programs the Rec Center has to offer, including free massage and group fitness classes; watch or participate in the three-point or slam dunk contests; enter in the dodgeball, ping-pong, or pool tournaments; walk away with free merchandise; and enjoy live local music. Turning the Tables at the Midnight Breakfast, Sept. 4
The Fall Midnight Breakfast is scheduled for Sept. 4 from 10 p.m.- 12 a.m. Students will be served a late night breakfast from the staff, faculty and administrators on campus. All staff, faculty and administrators are asked to arrive at 9 p.m. to receive work assignments.
