Fairfield Osborn Preserve

The Fairfield Osborn Preserve is an off-campus SSU facility available to faculty for instructional, educational and research purposes. Located seven miles from campus, it consists of 470 acres of grasslands, wetland habitats, oak woodlands and an Education Center, complete with classroom and projection equipment.

Many instructors have visited the preserve or use it regularly for classes, and the Education Center is also available for retreats if approval is granted in advance.

There are specific policies in place for use of the Preserve. Before visiting, arrangements must be made with Preserve staff. Even regular users must notify the Preserve office 24 hours in advance of a visit. To reach the Preserve parking lot, visitors must open a locked gate, and all users must sign in upon arrival.

If you wish to visit, please contact the Preserve Office at 795-5069 or email the Preserve Director, Nathan Rank. Information is also available on the Preserve’s website.
