IN MEMORIAM

Dr. Wesley Ebert

Dr. Wesley Ebert, professor emeritus of biology, passed away July 2. He was 82. He began teaching at SSU in 1964 and remained with the university for more than two decades.

He was deeply involved with education as well as an advocate for the homeless and immigrants. He co-founded the Santa Rosa InterFaith Shelter Network in 1989. A Penngrove resident for more than 40 years, he would also buy homes and rent them to immigrant families.

A memorial service was held for him on July 24, at which several current and retired faculty members were in attendance. Professor Jim Christmann, biology, called the service, “a lovely tribute to a quiet, gentle, thoughtful man, who lived his life according to deeply held beliefs and values.”
