Brian Wilson Conducts Youth Band at Tel Aviv University
The Mekubetzet Youth Band of Israel hosted Music Department Chair, Brian Wilson, as its guest conductor in July. Brian composed a fanfare for the band, titled Adamas, to commemorate the State of Israel's 60th anniversary. Adamas, after the Greek word meaning "unconquerable," received its world premiere on July 25 at the Buchman-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University.

The Mekubetzet band camp is in its third decade of existence and includes some 70 student musicians ages 13-18 from all over Israel. Many students return each year to renew friendships and intensify their music studies, spending up to eight hours each day in rehearsals and master classes.
The all-American concert program also included Wilson's Agamemnon Symphony, his Orange Was Her Color (a tone poem), and works by Morton Gould, Robert Russell Bennett and Eric Whitacre.
