Dr. Velma Guillory-Taylor Retires
After 35 years of service at SSU, Dr. Velma Guillory-Taylor is retiring. Guillory-Taylor started her career at SSU as a secretary in the Department of Education in 1973. While raising four children, she pursued her bachelor's degree at SSU. After eight years, she graduated with a degree in business. She continued her education at SSU and received her masters in Public Administration, then her doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco.
Guillory-Taylor was the first staff member to receive a Fulbright Scholarship. Under that Fullbright, she spent three and a half months in Nigeria visiting educational institutions. Guillory-Taylor obtained a faculty position in the Department of American Multicultural Studies and has also taught in the Women's & Gender Studies Department.
