Campus Conservation Measures

The process of implementing energy conservation measures throughout campus has commenced, under the direction of Facilities Management. These efforts will reduce SSU’s overall energy consumption and utilities costs. These modifications will also align our campus with the Chancellor’s Office Executive Order to conserve energy and reduce consumption by 15 percent by June 30, 2010.

The first phase of the project consists of changing the interior building lighting, to improve lighting and comfort levels. “Please note that the energy conservation measures currently underway in regard to lighting will change the color of the light to white from yellow. Please give yourself time to adjust to the change,” advises Keith Marchando, Senior Director of Energy Sustainability.

Conservation measures being implemented in following phases will include changes to heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, as well as the installation of a solar heating system at the campus pool adjacent to the gymnasium. This addition will save SSU additional energy costs by collecting solar power in lieu of natural gas.

Construction began Oct. 6 and should be completed by Jan. 12, 2009. Questions or concerns can be directed to Keith Marchando at 4-3494 or by email at keith.marchando@sonoma.edu.
