Intersession Class To Attend Presidential Inauguration


Washington Monument“Campaign 2008: The Presidential Inauguration Seminar” offers students and community members the unique opportunity to witness the inauguration of the country’s 44th  president in January 2009. The intersession course explores the aftermath of the 2008 General Election, including the nomination and swearing in of the next U.S. President. Those enrolled will fly to Washington D.C. for the ceremony and will participate in inaugural events.

The 10-day academic seminar provides a backstage view into the Presidential Inauguration, including lectures, site visits, tours, and special events. David McCuan, associate professor of political science, leads the class in discussing the steps it took for the next Commander-in-Chief to be chosen and inaugurated, briefing them on the nominations of presidential candidates, general election campaigns, and the ratification of the general election results by the Electoral College.

Apply online for the program by the guaranteed space deadline of Nov. 17 at www.campaign2008.info/node/28. Applications filed after that date are not guaranteed acceptance. The course fee is $960, with additional costs for travel and lodging accommodations. There is also a one-time $60-application fee. Interested persons are encouraged to apply early, as space is limited. Low Cost Health Examinations Available until Dec. 10


Low cost physical examinations and health appraisals for well adults and children are offered through the Sonoma State University Nursing Department's Family Nurse Practitioner program on Wednesdays until Dec. 10. They are available only to Sonoma County residents. The cost of a physical examination is $30, Pap test $45 and cholesterol check $25. Hearing tests are free and a DMV physical examination is $60.

Health ExamsThe exams are supervised by nursing faculty and performed by Family Nurse Practitioner students who are registered nurses enrolled in the Master's nursing program. Services include a complete medical and health history, identification of health risk factors, complete physical examinations and screening tests such as blood pressure checks, vision testing, audiology testing, urinalysis, hematocrit (for anemia), cholesterol testing, and Pap smears for cervical cancer. These services can be used for annual exams, sports physicals, pre-employment physicals, camp physicals and Class II DMV licensing physicals.

Appointments can be made by calling the Nursing Department at 4-2466, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
