Brett Christie Speaks in Reno
Brett Christie, School of Education and Center for Teaching and Professional Development, and Beez Schell of SUNY Fredonia (formerly of the SSU Kinesiology department), presented "Universal Design for Learning: Effective Teaching Strategies for All Students" at the Professional and Organizational Development Network Conference, Oct. 25 in Reno.
This presentation featured the results of a comprehensive CSU survey on effective teaching practices, as well as faculty development efforts in Universal Design for Learning (UDL). To date, more than 200 faculty, as well as 600 students with and without disabilities have offered their perspectives on the importance of incorporating the principles of UDL into the post-secondary classroom.
In addition, Brett Christie, Tom Carey of the University of Waterloo, Jeannie Cheng of SFSU, Wai Mei Fang of SJSU, and Tasha Souza of Humboldt State, presented "Digital Case Stories for Faculty Development: Whose Story? Whose Development?" These digital case stories combine faculty storytelling with course artifacts and interactive resources. This has involved extensive collaboration between the faculty storyteller and other team members with expertise in faculty development and digital media production.
