CSU Student Research Competition Deadline Approaching

The 23rd annual CSU Student Research Competition will be held May 1-2 at CSU Los Angeles. This system-wide competition showcases excellent research conducted by CSU undergraduate and graduate students. Faculty members are urged to mentor outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to submit their research projects for this event.

Cash prizes are awarded for the best presentations in each category, including behavioral and social sciences; biological sciences; business, economics and public administration; creative arts and design; education; engineering and computer science; health, nutrition and clinical sciences; humanities and letters; physical and mathematical sciences; and interdisciplinary studies.

Students must submit a five-page summary of their research work and be prepared to make a 10-minute oral presentation at the competition in May. Expenses for attending the event will be defrayed by SSU. The campus deadline for receipt of submissions for the competition is Fri., March 6.

"Expanding Your Horizons" Conference Seeks Student Participants and Adult Volunteers


Expanding Your Horizons ConferenceThe 17th annual "Expanding Your Horizons" Conference for seventh and eighth grade young women takes place on Sat., March 14 at Santa Rosa Junior College. The event is cosponsored by SSU, Agilent Technologies and many community organizations and groups.

"Expanding Your Horizons" aims to increase the awareness of young women and their parents of the importance of adequate preparation in math and science. It is designed to introduce them to the world of math, engineering, science and other fields in which high school math and science are required. The conference consists of hands-on workshops conducted by women who have chosen a career in one of these fields, and also features sessions designed for parents and educators.

Expanding Your Horizons ConferenceSeventh and eighth grade students from throughout Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties are invited to attend. Attendance is limited to 400 students. Pre-registration is required by Fri., March 6. Students can register online at the "Expanding Your Horizons" website, download a paper form or call the hotline at 707.664.2241 to request a paper registration form. The registration fee is $15 per student and includes snacks and lunch. Scholarships are also available by calling the hotline.
