CSU Super Sunday Prepares Students, Families for College
In 2005, the California State University (CSU) began "Super Sunday," as a new way to connect and inform African American students and families about what it takes to get into college. Each February on two consecutive Sundays, CSU leaders, presidents, trustees and the chancellor speak at churches across the state to share information about preparing for college, applying to CSU campuses, obtaining financial aid and more.
This year's Super Sunday took place on Feb. 15 in Northern California and Feb. 22 in Southern California, at nearly 70 different churches. President Arminana spoke on Feb. 15 at the Saint Stephen CME Church in Fairfield. "I offered the congregation some advice to get students on the right path," wrote Arminana in his Super Sunday blog. "I suggested they start today with the assumption that they would be a college student in a few years and that they should always have dreams and follow them."
