Annual "Seawolf Day" is now "Seawolf Decision Day"

What is Seawolf Decision Day? It's a day for prospective SSU students to meet admitted students, faculty and staff, and consider attending SSU in the fall. In the past, thousands of young adults and their families have attended the day-long event. The day is filled with academic presentations, workshops, tours, advising and information.
The annual event takes place Sat., March 21 from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information, visit the Prospective Students website.
First Annual Art Department Open House
The first annual Art Department Open House is Sat., March 21 from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Held in conjunction with Seawolf Decision Day, the Open House features department tours, open studios and research presentations. Also taking place are demonstrations in printmaking and ceramics, and a ceramics fashion show.
Hung Liu - a Chinese-American artist whose work is on display in the Art Gallery until Sun., March 22 - speaks at 2 p.m. in the Gallery. Her paintings and prints make use of anonymous
Chinese historical photographs,
particularly those of women, as
subject matter. Many incorporate
imagery from photographs
taken during China's Cultural
Revolution of the late 1960s. A reception follows her lecture.

Poet Kythe Heller on the Ancient Theme of Fire
Poet and performance artist Kythe Heller offers a "multi-media meditation" on the ancient theme of fire - as rage and death-bringer, as creative and transformative power. Heller is the author of "Fire Ceremony" and "Immolation" and her poetry and essays have appeared in such journals as The American Poetry Review, POOL and Salamander. She currently teaches as a visiting poet in the Language and Thinking Program at Bard College, while simultaneously pursuing a masters in divinity at Harvard University.
Heller's performance is sponsored by the Writers on Writing Program, which is funded by Associated Students, the Nadenia Newkirk Foundation and the Department of English. The event takes place Tues., March 24 at 6 p.m. in Schulz 3001.
Rick Luttmann Fashion Shown and Math Club Fundraiser
Rick Luttmann, mathematics, has agreed to "strut his stuff" once again for the Dr. Luttmann Fashion Show and Math Club Fundraiser. This year he performs for the masses on Tues., March 24 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. in the Cooperage. Luttmann said, “I have, as you noticed, a pension for eclectic dress. The Math Club thought it would be fun to see it all at once, ” and the Fashion Show came to being.
"Interrupted Life: Incarcerated Mothers in the United States" University Library Art Exhibit
From Thurs., March 26 until Tues., April 28, the University Library Art Gallery will feature the exhibit, "Interrupted Life: Incarcerated Mothers in the United States." Additionally, there are discussions, speakers and other events pertaining to the topic of incarcerated mothers which will take place during the month-long exhibit.
The program discusses the issue of mass incarceration and women - namely poor women of color - who represent the fastest growing group of prisoners, with nearly 115,000 women in correctional facilities, the majority of whom are mothers or primary caregivers to family members outside the system. Leonardo da Vinci Comes Alive in Multi-Media Performance
Rob Weiner, lecturer, brings Leonardo da Vinci to life in a multimedia performance called "Leonardo Live" on Thurs., March 26 at 7 p.m. in Warren Auditorium.
As entertaining as it is informative, his play brings the audience back to Renaissance Italy and reveals the struggles and joys of the man who created two of the most famous paintings of Western history, the Mona Lisa and the Last Supper, as well as countless inventions, like the helicopter, ball bearings, birds-eye view maps, anatomical drawing, and the telescope. Weiner (pictured above dressed as da Vinci) has performed "Leonardo Live" for the past several years at universities, community centers, and museums, and will discuss da Vinci after the play for those interested.
