New Early Childhood Education Minor

A new Early Childhood Education minor now offers a jumpstart for students of any major who are interested in working with young children. The new minor formally launches Wed., April 29 at 5:30 p.m. with a ceremony in the SSU Commons. Education Professor Chiara Bacigalupa is the early childhood education advisor.
She says preschool teachers with college degrees are more likely to provide high quality services to children.

The new minor is ideal to be combined with a wide range of majors including: Human Development, Psychology, Liberal Studies, Chicano Latino
Studies, Environmental Studies, Kinesiology, and American Multicultural Studies. It is a stepping stone for entry into the post-baccalaureate Multiple Subjects credential program, which is required
for elementary school teachers.

Staff Excellence Award Nominations Due April 30

Nominations for the 2009/2010 Staff Excellence Award are due by Thurs., April 30. This is an excellent opportunity to identify staff members who have really gone the extra mile this year. The Excellence Awards Advisory Committee will evaluate the nominations and forward their recommendations to President Armiñana for final selection. Two employees will receive the award, which includes a check for $1,500 and a seat with the platform party at Commencement. Award winners will be announced in early June.

Faculty and Staff Sought for Parent Panel

Do you have a son or daughter in college? Or are you the parent of college graduates? The new student orientation program is seeking volunteers to serve on a panel for parents, to discuss how best to support students as they transition to college life. The panel will consist of faculty, staff and current members of the SSU Family Association. The panel takes place from 7:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. in the Cooperage on the following dates:
