Brett Christie Delivers Keynote at CATS Conference

CATSBrett Christie, Center for Teaching and Professional Development (CTPD), gave a keynote talk to the CSU Community of Academic Technology Conference on Thurs., May 7. This presentation, "Teaching and Technology Horizons," was attended by over 117 participants and featured some of the latest research on advances in technology related to teaching, learning, scholarship, and creative expression. An ensuing discussion allowed attendees to ask probing questions, share current uses they would consider good models, and discuss how far-horizon technologies might help to advance the teaching and learning process. For those interested, there is a web archive of this one-hour session, which includes synchronized slides, audio, and participant text comments throughout.

Greg SarrisSarris Sheds Light on Often-Overlooked, Local Holocaust

Local Tribal Chairman and Greg Sarris explores the often-ignored legacy and horrifying history of the Native Americans in southern Sonoma County and Marin County on Tues., May 19 at 4 p.m. in Warren Auditorium. His lecture is titled "The Holocaust Beneath Our Feet: A History of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria" and is part of the 26th Annual Sonoma State University Holocaust Lecture Series.

Sarris covers the history of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, once the Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo Indians of southern Sonoma and Marin Counties. Because the story of the brutal, and ultimately genocidal, colonialism that devastated the local native people and environment is consistently overlooked, the local non-Indian community, including politicians and scholars, know little of this local Holocaust. Sarris hopes to shed light on the legacy of this tragedy for survivors and on the Coast Miwok and Southern Pomo's current cultural and political revival that promises to profoundly impact Sonoma County.
