Session Recordings Available for CATS 2009 Conference

The CSU's Community of Academic Technology Staff (CATS) held its annual conference online from Wed., May 6 through Fri., May 8. The conference focused on the major themes, issues, topics, and technological and educational advances influencing the direction of academic technology. Call for Participants: Summer CAMP

The Course Accessibility Makeover Program (CAMP) takes place June 2 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in Schulz 2019 for full-time faculty interested in learning more about the importance of accessibility and in developing knowledge and skills that will increase teaching effectiveness for all students, particularly those with disabilities. Lunch is included. RSVPs are required, but additional slots are supported and available. The deadline to RSVP is Tues., May 26.


Sessions include:

• Accessibility Overview and Discussion
• Universal Design for Learning: Increasing Curricular Effectiveness • Using Microsoft Word to create accessible course documents
• Using Microsoft PowerPoint to create accessible slideshows and handouts
• Using LecShare to render existing PowerPoint slideshows accessible
• Basics of Web Accessibility (e.g., Dreamweaver)
• Introduction to Assistive Technology: A Student Panel and Demo,

A $300 stipend will be given to those faculty members who complete the one-day institute outlined above. In addition, a $300 stipend will be given to those who complete the following tasks related to one Fall 2009 course of their choosing.

These need to be completed and submitted by Aug. 15, 2009:
• Submit one accessible course syllabus ( can begin this work on June 2)
• Submit three course changes made, one for each principle of Universal Design for Learning: Representation, Engagement, and Expression
• Submit three accessible instructional materials (e.g., an accessible PowerPoint; an accessible handout; an accessible course web page; an accessible video)

• Name and department
• If known, the name of the Fall 2009 course that would be your focus
• A very brief statement (100-200 words) as to why you would like to complete this training (e.g., what professional outcomes for you; benefits for students; other)
