Sonoma County Groups Offer Occupational Health and Safety Training

Sonoma County unions and building trades are partnering to offer a free occupational health and safety course over three Saturdays at SSU. Taking place August 8, 15 and 22 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in Salazar 2016, this 24-hour workshop trains participants to take leadership roles in the workplace. “In 2008, 15,428 California workers were reported injured on the job, up from 14,892 in 2007,” says facilitator Valeria Velazquez. “Workplace injury costs the state and employers not only millions of dollars but also untold social and personal losses. ”

Hosted by the School of Extended Education, the workshop is open to workers and managers from all industries and is part of the Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP), a statewide initiative aimed at reducing occupational injuries and illnesses and workers’ compensation costs in California.

Test Scanning System Upgraded, Note Important Changes

ScanningThe campus Test Scanning System has been upgraded as of June 1 (Important information and updated forms can be found at the IT Scanning webpage). The old system was broken and no longer supported by the vendor, and has been replaced by a more reliable and efficient new system which features:

• Better Reporting Data- All the reporting data available from the old system is still available. In many cases more detailed information and better summaries are available.

• Easier to Read Reports- All of the reports have a much cleaner, more legible format. Many reports include legends to assist in identifying data.

• Email and Print Reports Available- Instructors can now receive a PDF version of test results via email. Just check that option on the form and include your SSU email address. Print versions are available, too.

Important changes to be aware of:

• Student ID numbers must be bubbled on the tests before submitting them for scanning. This new security measure is mandatory and will help ensure proper test scanning and reporting. Students may bubble in their first and last names, however that is optional.

• The Class Test Scanning Request form has been updated for the new system. The old form can no longer be accepted.

• Reports have slightly different names. The IT Scanning webpage shows changes and sample reports. The IT Helpdesk can also assist in selecting the right reports.

• "Statistical Summary" data has moved to the new Item Analysis and Score Distribution Reports.
