Town Hall Meetings Focus on Furloughs and Budget
A special Town Hall meeting is scheduled in Person Threatre on Thursday, July 23 from noon-1.p.m., following the July Board of Trustees meeting. This Town Hall is specifically directed to members of CSUEU, physicians, MPPs and non-represented employees (although all are welcome) in regard to furloughs, if the Board of Trustees approve the furlough plan on July 22. Presenting will be CFO Larry Furukawa-Schlereth, Kathleen Spitzer, Managing Director of Employee Services; Joyce Suzuki, Managing Director of Employee Relations & Compliance Services; and Susan Zito, Manager of Payroll & Benefits.
Additionally, a regularly-scheduled Town Hall Meeting on the Budget takes place Thurs., July 30 from noon-1 p.m. Please note that the venue has been changed from Schulz 3001 to Person Theatre.

Sullins Focuses on Ethics of Teaching Malware at Conference in Greece
John P. Sullins (right), philosophy, attended the Computer Ethics Philosophical Enquiry Conference 2009 in Corfu, Greece from Fri., June 26 to Sun., June 28 where he organized a panel on computer malware ethics. The other panelists were George Ledin, computer science (who was unable to attend), and Dr. John Aycock of the University of Calgary. The panel focused on the ethics of teaching students how to program malware such as computer worms, viral software and spyware. The panel touched on the beneficent uses of malware such as by pro-democracy dissidents in China, as well as the need to prepare future computer professionals in the mitigation of malware threats. Sonoma County Groups Offer
Occupational Health and Safety Training
Sonoma County unions and building trades are partnering to offer a free occupational health and safety course over three Saturdays at SSU. Taking place August 8, 15 and 22 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in Salazar 2016, this 24-hour workshop trains participants to take leadership roles in the workplace. Hosted by the School of Extended Education, the workshop is open to workers and managers from all industries and is part of the Worker Occupational Safety and Health Training and Education Program (WOSHTEP), a statewide initiative aimed at reducing occupational injuries and illnesses and workers’ compensation costs in California.
