Residential Community Move-In Weekend
This weekend, the University is welcoming around 2500 students who will be living in the Residential Community. With the opening of Tuscany Village, this is the largest number of students ever to live on campus. There will be around 1360 freshmen; 160 transfers; and 980 residents returning for their second, third, or fourth year of campus living.
The incoming residents have all been mailed their electronic room key so when they arrive on campus all they need to do is proceed directly to their residence and start moving-in. Members of several campus clubs and organizations have volunteered to greet the residents upon arrival and help them move in their belongings.
Weekend events include parent receptions, resident building meetings, a barbecue by the Lakes, and evening social events. Special thanks to all of the campus departments who will be working over the weekend to help make the residents' move-in experience a success: Conference and Event Services, Facilities Management, Customer Services, Dining Services, Information Technology, Residential Life, Mail Services, New Student Orientation and Family Programs, Student Leadership, Involvement and Service, Rec Center, Financial Aid, Police and Parking Services, Bookstore, Card Services, and Housing Services.
"First Day" Welcoming Students to SSU for Third Year
The 3rd annual "First Day” takes place Tues., Aug. 25 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. First Day was created to welcome all new students, freshmen and transfer students, to academic life at Sonoma State University by building on New Student Convocation. It is an opportunity for students to receive an official welcome from university faculty, staff and continuing students. During First Day, students engage in many activities to get to know others in their class. Incoming freshman also complete the CIRP Freshman Survey. From there, students walk to the gymnasium for New Student Convocation. Any faculty interested in being part of the Convocation Processional should meet at the Stevenson loading locks at 11:30 am in full regalia.

The goal of First Day is to create a traditional welcome for our students that will mirror graduation in spring, thus creating bookends of their experience at SSU. Attendance for all new students is mandatory. All students in UNIV 102, UNIV 150 and Hutchins will meet with their class and attendance will be taken. Transfer students and students not in a transition class will meet in groups of 35 to do team building and perhaps a tour with a student life staff member and CSA.
If there are any questions regarding faculty involvement, contact Elaine Leeder at elaine.leeder@sonoma.edu. For more information, visit the First Day webpage.

Dining Services has announced new hours for the fall semester for their eight on-campus venues. "We have made these changes to accommodate the furlough schedule while continuing to provide our campus residents with uninterrupted service in their meal plans," says Ryan Ernst, Director of Marketing and General Services. "We appreciate your understanding as we all work through this difficult time."
