Live-Dance-Paint
The University Library is hosting the exhibit “Live-Dance-Paint,” artwork by Austrian Romani (Gypsy) artist Ceija Stojka. The exhibit is on view until October 30. Stojka’s paintings depict her life as a traveling Romani woman before and after World War II, the trauma she and other Roma experienced in the Nazi concentration camps of Auschwitz, Ravensbrück, and Bergen-Belsen, and the hope she has for future generations to overcome oppression. She was born in 1933 into a traveling Lovara clan in Austria and received little education.
“Live-Dance-Paint” is the first showing of Stojka’s work in the United States and is being shown in three different locations: Pacific University in Oregon, West Branch Gallery in Stowe,Vermont, and Sonoma State.
