CIRP Data Now Available
Each year, incoming freshmen at SSU take a national survey called the Cooperative Institutional Research Project (CIRP) from the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA. The survey asks for reasons why they decided to go to college and specifically to SSU, academic engagement in high school, attitudes toward political and social engagement and toward diversity, and life aspirations. A report on trends from 1993 - 2007 is available on the Institutional Research website, under "Institutional Research, Annual Reports" on the left side (this requires an LDAP username and password). Open the 2009-2010 folder to access the CIRP trends report.
Francisco H. Vásquez Receives Connie Codding Humanist Award
The organization "Listening for a Change"
has awarded Francisco H. Vázquez, Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, the Connie Codding Humanist Award for "his many years as a teacher, a scholar, a community activist, and someone who helps give voice to the voiceless." Vázquez received the award at the "Sunset Soiree" event, held at the Michel-Schlumberger Wine Estate on Sat., August 29.
"Listening for a Change" is based out of Santa Rosa and, according to the organization's website, promotes understanding and acceptance of human diversity through education, oral history, and the arts. The second edition of Vázquez's book, "Latino/a Thought: Culture, Politics, and Society," was released by Rowman and Littlefield in January of this year. For more information or to order a copy of the book, visit the Rowman and Littlefield website.
