WASC Review Visit

The WASC Review team is on campus next week, from Wed., Oct. 7 to Fri., Oct. 9, to conduct the Educational Effectiveness Review, the final phase of the reaccreditation process. For complete information, visit the SSU Portfolio website.

Many campus members will be participating in the visit as a committee member or as a representative of an academic department. In addition, there will also be a number of opportunities for the campus community at large to meet with the WASC team in open gatherings.

A Welcome Reception and Poster Session, open to all, will be held in The Commons on Wed., Oct. 7 from 4:30 p.m.-6 p.m. Posters will feature programs and initiatives that illustrate commitment to Educating the Whole Student. Please join us for this welcome event.

There are four open meetings:
All faculty open meeting, Wed., Oct. 7, 12:45 p.m.-1:30 p.m., Schulz 3001
All students open meeting, Thurs., Oct. 8, 2:15 p.m.-2:45 p.m., Schulz 3001
All staff open meeting, Thurs., Oct. 8, 2:15 p.m.-2:45 p.m., Quiet Study Room, Schulz, 3rd floor south
All faculty, students, and staff final exit interview, Fri., Oct. 9, 11:30 a.m.-noon, Schulz 3001

The purpose of the Educational Effectiveness Review is to ascertain the extent to which SSU fulfills its core commitment to educational effectiveness. In preparation for the review, the Sonoma State University Educational Effectiveness Review Report, Educating the Whole Student: Sustaining SSU’s Mission in a Time of Change, was submitted to WASC in June. As required by WASC accreditation standards, the visit team will focus on themes in the report that address student learning, notably, the distinctive qualities of a Sonoma State University education, as well as curriculum and the roles of general education and the major.

For those intending to participate in the WASC review, please peruse the report posted on the web. The report (35 pages plus appendices) may be viewed or downloaded in its entirety or the contents can be viewed by section, linked from the column on the left of the web page. A print copy is also available on reserve in the University Library (inquire at the Circulation Desk).

Questions may be directed to Barbara Butler, Dean of the Library, at barbara.butler@sonoma.edu.
