Jordon Williams Receives Hearst/CSU Trustees' Award for Outstanding Achievement
Sonoma State senior Jordon M. Williams, a business major with a concentration in accounting, has been awarded with the William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustees’ Award for Outstanding Achievement. The award is annually presented to CSU students who demonstrate outstanding academic success, personal achievement, community service and financial need. Williams received a $3, 000 scholarship and a $1200 equipment award package from Sony, which included a Sony Vio laptop.
Williams, a 2006 graduate of Rocklin High School, is the first member of his family to attend a four-year university. Despite personal hardships, including the death of his father and the incarceration of his mother, Williams has maintained honor roll status for six straight semesters and is involved in many aspects of the SSU community. Aside from serving as a community service advisor for freshmen residents, Williams is also a campus tour guide and remains committed to campus diversity through his involvement with the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). He hopes to found his own university in the future, with an emphasis on first-generation and underrepresented student populations.
Williams and twenty-two fellow recipients were honored on Sept. 23 at the Board of Trustees meeting at Chancellor Charles Reed’s office in Long Beach. Mike Abrary, Sr. Vice President of Sony, further congratulated the students before presenting them with new laptops.
