INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK 2009 TAKING PLACE NOV. 16-20
What is International Education Week?
Since the year 2000, International Education Week (IEW) has been an annual nationwide celebration of both international education and intercultural understanding. Its primary focus is the importance of increasing knowledge and awareness of the world's cultures among students and the wider campus community. But it also highlights the vital role that international education and exchange programs play in promoting peace in the world. For more information about the nationwide celebration, visit the IEW website.
For members of the SSU community, the aim of IEW is to provide an opportunity to learn something new, to find out about international opportunities in a discipline or major through study abroad, and to experience different cultural events.
What Kinds of Events Take Place During the Week?
• Open classrooms, as well as stand-alone lectures by SSU faculty
• Internationally themed meals and activities
• Films, performances, guest speakers and art exhibits
• "Passport to…" — series of presentations by Sonoma State’s study abroad alumni
How Do I Get Involved in International Education Week?
• Host and/or present an internationally focused program for the campus community (For example, offering events during the regular class session and requiring students to attend)
• Publicize IEW among colleagues, students, and friends
• Offer students extra credit for attending selected IEW events
• Come and enjoy the events sponsored by colleagues and students
