Low Cost Health Exams Offered by Nursing Program


Low cost physical examinations and health appraisals for well adults and children are available through the SSU Nursing Department's Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Exams are offered on Wednesdays from Oct. 14 until Dec. 16 for Sonoma County residents. The exams are supervised by nursing faculty and performed by family nurse practitioner students, who are registered nurses enrolled in the Master's nursing program.
Services include a complete medical and health history, identification of health risk factors, complete physical examinations ($30) and screening tests such as blood pressure checks, vision testing, audiology testing, urinalysis, hematocrit (for anemia), cholesterol testing ($25), and Pap smears for cervical cancer ($45).

These services can be utilized for annual exams, sports physicals, pre-employment physicals, camp physicals and Class II DMV licensing physicals ($60). Copies of records are given to clients upon request as well as mailed to private physicians or agencies. Appointments may be made by calling SSU's Nursing Department at 4-2466, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fuscaldo and Rigby Speak at Thursday's "Coaches Corner"

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics presents "The Coaches Corner," a new program developed to inform the campus community about the ongoing progress of SSU's NCAA intercollegiate teams. Each month's program will feature one or more head coaches from the thirteen varsity sports at SSU.

This month's Coaches Corner features Men's Basketball Head Coach Pat Fuscaldo and Women's Basketball Head Coach Mark Rigby, and takes place on Thurs., Nov. 19 from noon-1 p.m. in the Student Union Multipurpose Room. Bring a lunch and get a first hand pre-season preview for the 2009-10 men's and women's basketball season.

Media Services Winter Break Schedule

Media Services will close for Winter Break on Fri., Dec. 18 at 4:30 p.m. and will reopen on Mon., Jan. 4 at 8 a.m. During this period, staff will perform routine maintenance in the Technology Enhanced Classrooms, including software updates and hardware modifications to the control systems. These changes should be mostly invisible to users of the Technology Enhanced Classrooms, and will not change how the equipment is operated. All updates and modifications will be implemented and tested prior to the beginning of Winter Intersession classes. For more information, contact media.services@sonoma.edu.

2010-2011 Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program

Applications for the 2010-2011 Chancellor’s Doctoral Incentive Program (formerly the Forgivable Loan Program) are now available online. The program’s goal is to increase the pool of individuals with the motivation, skills, and experience to teach the diverse student body of the CSU system. Those selected will be eligible to borrow up to $10, 000 per year for a total of $30, 000 within a five-year period while they are enrolled full-time in a doctoral program. The loans will be cancelled at a rate of 20% per year for each year of full-time faculty employment at a CSU campus after completion of the doctorate. Each applicant must be sponsored by a full-time tenured/tenure-track CSU faculty member. Completed applications and all supporting materials should be submitted to David Hartranft in the Academic Affairs Office (Stev. 1041). The application deadline is March 1, 2010.
