Bryant to Lecture on Richard II at Local Libraries

Brantley Bryant, professor of English who specializes in medieval literature, will be lecturing about "The Tragic History of Richard II, King of England" at local, public libraries in Spring 2010. "I plan to discuss the, fascinating life and tragic fall of one of medieval England's most, memorable kings, and how the real history of his life became the, topic for some amazing literary masterpieces." Bryant lectures at the Rohnert Park Library on Sat., March 13 at 2 p.m., and at the Petaluma Library on Sat., April 17 at 2 p.m.

Benney on National Focus Group for U.S. Secretary of Education

Matthew BenneyMatthew Benney, Executive Director of University Support and Preparation Services, was nominated to participate in a 15-member national focus group led by Greg Darnieder, Senior Advisor to Arne Duncan, the U.S. Secretary of Education. Members of the focus group were selected by nomination from institutions of higher education from throughout the nation to provide feedback and discuss the direction of President Obama’s educational initiatives, primarily those involved in college access efforts. Discussions focused on identifying systemic solutions and collaborative efforts in support of President Obama’s goal to have the highest proportion of post-secondary attainment in the world by 2020. Benney was nominated by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), a Washington, D.C. based non-profit advocating for educational opportunity and access for underrepresented students.

Christie Appointed to "Best for the West" and Lectures at International Conference

Brett Christie, Center for Teaching and Professional Development, has been appointed by Educause, the leading national organization on technology in higher education, to be a member of "Best for the West." He joins this group of professionals as a leader in the advancement of academic technology and faculty development. Over the course of the next year, this group will further analyze the most promising educational technology practices and develop resources that will enable related faculty development to be implemented formally across partner institutions, as well as through broader dissemination means to institutes of higher education globally.

Also, Christie and Cynthia Desrochers of the CSU Institute for Teaching and Learning delivered "Designing and Delivering Effective Webinars: A Workshop for Directors of Academic Technology and Faculty Development" at the International Professional and Organizational Development Conference on October 29 in Houston. This workshop demonstrated the uses and potential of current and emerging webinar technologies, whether for distance-based meetings, collaborations, trainings, or academic courses.
