Health Center Receives
Maximum Accreditation
The Student Health Center recently received notice of the maximum award of a three-year accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. This is the sixth successful accreditation in a row for the Student Health Center and it reflects the fact that the Student Health Center has been evaluated according to rigorous nationally recognized standards for the provision of quality health care, has continuously met those standards and is poised to meet them in the future.
Accreditation requires an extensive on-and off-site analysis of the medical, pharmacy, lab, x-ray, medical records, and public health aspects of the Student Health Center as well an in-depth review of its administration, programs, procedures, facilities and standards for staff. Not all ambulatory health care organizations seek accreditation, and not all undergoing these surveys are successful. Fewer than 10% of college health centers nationwide achieve this distinction, says Georgia Schwartz, Director.
