SIGNING OFF - From trekking through Brazil, painting and lecturing in the classroom, Bob Nugent continues to lead a rich, colorful life as he retires from SSU after 24 years of service. The University Art Gallery is displaying through March 13 more than 35 new paintings created by Nugent, many of which have never been publicly displayed. During his term here, Nugent served as a Professor of Art and the Director of the University Art Gallery.
Come to the Faculty Expo of Scholarship and Sponsored Research, Feb. 28
The 2007 Faculty Exposition is being held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 in the Commons. Visit the Faculty Expo Web site for an updated list of presenters and project abstracts. The Expo provides an opportunity for faculty to share the results of their research with their colleagues, SSU staff and students, and with the community at large. This event is sponsored by the Faculty Subcommittee on Sponsored Programs, the Professional Development Subcommittee, and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, with support from the Office of the Provost.
"What Can We Do Locally: Health Care Crisis In Sonoma County" Subject of Conference
A public forum especially for community health professionals, policymakers, academics, and community members working with or concerned with health care issues will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Cooperage. Speakers will present and discuss final study findings on overall local coalition-building around critical health care needs, on what might be learned from four other progressive counties at work on community-building around access to healthcare, and on developing an improved community health care data analysis and communication system.
Speakers include: Dr. Phyllis Senter, President of the Sonoma County Medical Association; George Perez, CEO of Memorial-St. Joseph's; Julie Kawahara, of Kawahara and Associates; and Annette Gardner, Academic Specialist at the University of California, San Francisco. Gil Ojeda, Director of the California Program on Access to Care at the University of California Office of the President, will also give an overview of the morning's presentations and of the SSU program.

Rethinking Race and Class: A New Vision of Social Justice, Feb. 26
Harvard Law professor Lani Guiner challenges the stereotypes surrounding race, class, and gender equality as part of the Andrea Neves and Barton Evans Social Justice Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 26 in the Evert B. Person Theatre. Guinier came to public attention when she was nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1993 to head the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, only to have her name withdrawn without a confirmation hearing.
