Nominations Open for Staff Rep to Academic Senate

The Academic Senate has one seat for a staff member. This spring the current staff representative's term will expire. Nominations are now
open. You may self-nominate or nominate another. If you nominate another, please gain their permission prior to nominating. The Senate
meets alternate Thursdays, from 3- 5 p.m. and you must have approval from your supervisor. Any staff employee not faculty or in the MPP group is eligible to serve. The term is three years. Send nominations to the Academic Senate office in Stevenson 1071 or e-mail to

Guests on campus...

Through Wednesday, March 1, a team of three deans from a peer review team with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International will be on campus for an official visit to determine whether the Department of Business Administration's undergraduate and graduate academic programs meet standards for accreditation. The members visiting SSU include:
1. James Weeks (PRT Chair), Dean, Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics, University of North Carolina at Greensboro
2. Moustafa Abdelsamad, Dean, College of Business, Texas A&M University, Corpus Christi
3. William Moore, Dean, Franklin P. Perdue School of Business, Salisbury University, Salisbury, Maryland

The team will tour the campus, meet with campus and community constituents and students and evaluate the campus and School of Business programs. Faculty and staff may be stopped for a brief discussion by a PRT member as they tour campus.

Morgan Spurlock

Super-Sized Visit

Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, best known (so far) for his Oscar-nominated work “Super Size Me” (an irreverent look at McDonald’s and obesity in America) comes for a supersized visit to SSU in March with a screening of his film on March 4, and two appearances later in the month. At 3 p.m. on March 11, he offers a free lecture for the campus in the Cooperage. Later that evening, he offers his perspective on censorship in modern society and the current state of U.S. media at Project Censored's 30th anniversary party,which features a benefit silent auction at the Rohnert Park Community Center.


Staff Excellence Award
Nomination Period Ends March 1

The deadline for submission for the Staff Excellence Award Program is March 1 at 5 p.m. To nominate an employee, download the nomination form and return it to Employee Relations and Compliance Services in Salazar 2078. This program recognizes outstanding service by staff members who display excellence in the categories of creativity, leadership/teamwork, initiative, enhancing the work environment, and special contributions to the University as a whole. It is awarded to two employees per year.

All non-MPP Sonoma State University staff, including members covered by bargaining units 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, confidential employees and foundation employees in comparable positions, are eligible for nomination. To be eligible, employees must have 12 months or more of SSU employment, work half-time or more, and have a commendable work record. Questions may be directed to Terilynn Bench, 4-2227.

Register for School Retreat

Reservations are still being accepted for the School of Social Science's retreat on cultural competence from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 10 in the multi-purpose room in the Student Union. There will be a light continental breakfast and lunch for those that attend. To attend, RSVP to connie.lewsadder @sonoma.edu by Friday, March 3.
