Water, Power & Politics with Andrew Roth

How has the relationship between water and power shaped human life in California? Sociology Professor Andrew Roth discusses "Water, Power & Politics" at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 3 in the Stony Point Room, Ray Miller Community Center, 216 E. School St. behind Cotati City Hall. Roth teaches classes in environmental sociology, sociological theory, language and society, sociology of religion, and documentary film. historical perspective is offered to help citrizens better respond to current dilemmas regarding water use in Sonoma County. The event is part of the Cotati Creek Critters education series.

Bell Explores Architectural Theory and Design

Roger Bell, Philosophy, presents "Building Upon Architectural Theory: Philosophy and Hammers" at noon on March 6 in Schulz 3001. Bell will discuss the relationships between his interests in architectural theory and design. The '70s into the '90s was marked by a close affiliation between architecture and philosophy with shared interests in semiotics, phenomenology of place, and post-structuralist concerns with spacing and displacement, etc. During this time and since, while actively writing on this theoretical convergence, Bell was involved in a number of design and building projects. With the use of images of these projects, Bell will comment upon how he understood the importance of theory to architecture and design. The event is part of the Art and Humanities Creative Works Forum.
