"Life in Bold Colors " Explores Haitian
Art at University Art Gallery
The
works of 16 Haitian artists are featured in "Life
in Bold Colors: Haitian Art from the Collection of Patrick
Jamieson" through April 27 at the University Art
Library. The exhibit depicts the unique interests of Patrick
Jamieson of Novato who invites the viewer to explore Haitian
art through the lens of a collector. Jamieson is interested
in understanding how these particular West Indians - descendants
of slaves - understand their own relationships to the
rest of the world; and how their artwork embodies the social,
religious and political powers that provide multiple subtexts
for daily existence. Many of the works shown in "Life
in Bold Colors" are created with vivid colors - an
ironic contrast to the turbulence in Haiti over the last
century.

Come to the Second Annual
Graduate Student Research Showcase
"Research in Action" is the theme of the second annual Graduate Student Research Showcase set for Wednesday, March 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Cooperage. Following on the success of last year’s inaugural event, the showcase features live presentations and poster sessions by master’s degree candidates and recent alumni from SSU’s outstanding graduate programs. Refreshments are provided. Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Carol Blackshire-Belay will deliver the opening remarks at 4:25 p.m. Faculty are urged to encourage students who are interested in advanced degrees to attend. Poll Monitors Needed for Student Elections
Faculty and staff are needed as volunteer poll monitors as the student body goes to the polls on Tuesday, March 27 and Wednesday, March 28 to elect its student government.
Positions to be elected include president, executive vice president, vice president of finance, and senators representing each school and undeclared students. Faculty and staff are also encouraged to remind the students with whom they interact to use their voice and vote.
