Questions Answered at Update
on Accessibility Initiative
An open forum to discuss the Accessible Technology Initiative is to be held Friday, May 11, from 1-2:30 p.m. in Schulz 3001. Faculty and staff are invited to hear an update on the initiative and upcoming plans. They especially are encouraged to bring questions. “This will be a great opportunity to get clear answers from the source,” Brett Christie said. Christie, coordinator of the Accessible Technology Initiative for SSU, said faculty and staff have many questions about how ATI will affect their work.
Such questions include: What does this mean to my course syllabus? Resource development? Instruction using PowerPoint, Word and other file types? Is the textbook selection or ordering process going to change? How can I make my websites accessible? Christie serves as one of the panelists along with Vice Provost Carol Blackshire-Belay; Barbara Moore, director of Web services; Brent Boyer, Disabled Student Services coordinator; Ruth McDonnell, Financial Services; Emiliano Ayala, director of EnACT; Cathy Kroll, assistant professor of English; and Kirsten Ely, associate professor of Business Administration.
The forum will devote time to each of the initiative’s three priorities: Web accessibility, instructional materials accessibility and procurement. Finally, faculty members who have completed a Faculty Learning Community on Universal Design for Learning will share their experience and how it has enhanced teaching and learning. The Accessible Technology Initiative is a systemwide effort of the California State University to make information technology resources and services accessible to students, faculty, staff and the general public.
