SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR - Winner of the Cannes Special Jury Prize in 2000, the film is composed of only forty-six scenes, unspooled before a still camera like paintings come to life. Here Sweden's sanitized world first appears normal, yet as the camera rolls, the repressed returns: nightmares, terrors, the dead or the misshapen, and "little" social errors like racism and downsizing, each played out like a silent comedy. STOMP THE YARD - After the death of his younger brother, a troubled 19-year-old street dancer from Los Angeles is able to bypass juvenile hall by enrolling in the historically black, Truth University in Atlanta, Georgia. Scene It Movie Series. 9 p.m., Saturday, May 12. Cooperage. 4-2804.
FAST FOOD NATION - An
ensemble piece derived from Eric Schlosser's book of the
same name examines the health risks involved in the fast
food industry and its environmental and social consequences
as well. This film includes interwoven characters living
in Colorado all dealing with the fast food industry in
various ways. Mexicans coming over the border, are stuck
in meat-packing jobs with unreasonable bosses, a few local
American kids are upset at the system and don’t like
the way cows are treated and Greg Kinnear, as an executive
from a very popular fast-food chain, is sent to this part
of Americana to check up on their meat ingredients. Scene
