
Get Ready for Fun at the 2007 Staff Appreciation Day
The 2007 Staff Appreciation Day is Thursday, June 7 starting
at 8 a.m. at Zinfandel Dining Services. Check out
the new features on the Staff
Appreciation Day Web site. New to Staff
Appreciation day this year is: Food -
Dining Services is providing a full buffet breakfast and
lunch.
New Pet Categories -
Best Buds, Best Dressed Pet, Cutest Little Ones (pets younger
than 1-year old), and Cutest Adult Pet. The
contest still needs entries of staff's pets. More
information about this contest may be found online.
Great Sessions - campus tours, fitness
classes, food presentations, and a special exploration
of the Fairfield Osborn Preserve. See the Staff Appreciation
Day web site for clothing requirements for some sessions.
Pool Usage - The pool will be open from
noon to 2 p.m. for swimming and sunbathing. Remember to
bring a bathing suit.
Surprise Guest - The morning will
feature a surprise appearance by a special guest.
RSVP by June 1 to stephanie.torres@sonoma.edu to
confirm attendance at the buffet breakfast and buffet lunch.
Include which meals you are planning to attend and a preferred

Very Special Grad Ceremonies Ahead
Special graduation celebrations will be held on campus
in addition to the main commencement event next Saturday.
They include:
RAINBOW CELEBRATION - Rainbow Graduation
is a time for the queer, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender,
two-spirit, intersex, questioning, same-gender-loving people
and their friends, family, and allies of Sonoma State University
to come together to celebrate the accomplishments of the
last year and to recognize those moving on to the next
chapter in their lives. 7-9 p,m., Thursday, May
24. Student Union Multipurpose Room.
LA RAZA CELEBRATION - The ceremony includes
cultural music, bilingual keynote speakers, and a unique
opportunity for the graduates to thank the individuals
who have assisted them in obtaining their degree. A reception
follows and provides personal time for graduates, family,
faculty, and friends to celebrate with traditional food
and music. 5 p.m., Friday, May 25. Evert B. Person Theatre.
AFRICAN-AMERICAN CELEBRATION - Black Scholars
United hosts the African-American celebration as an opportunity for the University
to acknowledge the achievements of African-American students
and the students to thank their families, friends, faculty
and mentors. 6 p.m., Friday, May 25. Cooperage.
Summer Dining Hours Announced
Beginning May 29, Dining Services will have the following
hours for the summer: Toast: 7 a.m. -11
a.m.; Summer Grill: 11 a.m. -2 p.m.; Charlie
Brown's: 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. The Summer Grill menu

"Friends of Residential Life" Honored
at National Residence Hall Awards
The National Residence Hall Honorary held its annual
awards celebration recently to recognize the top student
leaders who have made a difference in the residential community
this past year. In addition, it recognizes campus and community
members who have also made a difference this past year.
This award, called the "Friends of Residential Life," has
been awarded to: Lorna Catford, Psychology; Susan Herring,
Mathematics; Rufino "JR" Cervantes, Facilities;
Samantha Phillips, Housekeeping; Sam Youney, Grounds;
Jeff Woods, JUMP.
Saturday is the Chance to See
the State-wide Spelling
Bee
Ever wanted to sit in on the state-wide spelling be that
is often the subject of those inspirational documentaries? The
state's top elementary school spellers - 63 of them - compete
Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. in Evert B. Person Theatre
at the California State Elementary Spelling Championship.
These students, representing 32 California counties, have
already won school, region, and county spelling bees. Dr.
Carl Wong, Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools, will
welcome participants and guests to the event, then show
a video greeting from State Superintendent of Public Instruction
Jack O'Connell. The event also features a virtual tour
of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, this year's partner agency.
Anne Harris-Gebb, a teacher at Jefferson School in Cloverdale,
is the spellmaster. The campus community is invited to
attend this free event.
