APPLAUSE AWARD
Thanks to the University Scholarship Committee
For Another
Successful Cycle
More than 200 students received scholarship awards totaling $259,000 and we were again able to make notifications prior to May 1 for the 2007-2008 academic year thanks to the the diligent and assiduous efforts of the University Scholarship Committee. Each year, the University Scholarship Committee evaluates all of the applications submitted by new and continuing students. Every spring semester, each committee member receives training and reads the approximately 80 scholarship application files between February and April. For the 2007-2008 scholarship cycle, however, the workload was even greater.
The University Scholarship Program received 762 applications as compared to 525 for the 2006-2007 cycle. As a result, many of the 23 committee members read 100 to 120 files instead of 80. University Scholarship Committee members are elected by their schools and serve a one, two or three year term. Many faculties continue to renew their terms because they feel their work on the Committee provides a positive service to our students and helps to make an impact on their experience at SSU. The amount of work they accomplish and the extent of their dedication to the purpose of the Scholarship Committee deserve recognition and applause.
The committee members are: Arts & Humanities - Suzanne Toczyski, Sheril Jaffe, Elizabeth Burch, Michaela Grobbell; Business & Economics - Robert Eyler; Education - Hee-Won Kang, Karen Grady; Science and Technology - Izabela Kanaana, Anita Caitlin, Nick Geist, Daniel Crocker, Jerry Morris; Social Sciences - Maureen Buckley, Theresa Alfaro-Velcamp; President’s Appointees - Kim Hester-Williams, Ali Kooshesh; Ex-Officio - Bucky Peterson, Bill Fusco, Susan Gutierrez; Library - Phil Huang; Student Affairs Liaison - Douglas Jordan; Emeritus Readers - Rolfe Erickson.
