Dance Ensemble Steps into Spring

The Spring Dance Ensemble (see banner, above) presents eight performances of spirited dancing and stunning choreography from Friday, May 4 through Saturday, May 12 in the Evert B. Person Theatre. Performances by Bay Area dancers and choreographers Carol Kueffer, Sheldon Smith, Scott Wells, along with Nancy Lyons and Kristen Daley are featured. For tickets, phone the Center For Performing Arts Box Office at 4-2353 or visit the CPA Web site. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m.

Patricia Kim-Rajal, Chicano and Latino Studies, and Sunil Tiwari, Mathematics, have been named this year's recipients of the annual Excellence in Teaching Awards. A reception honoring these distinguished professors will be held later in the year. MORE

STYLIN' FOR DOLLARS - Math professor Rick Luttmann shows off his fashion sense at a fundraiser for the Math Club from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 in the Cooperage. Tickets are $5 general admission, $3 for students. Pizza will be served during intermission. Luttman intends to display some of his more eccentric outfits for all to enjoy and accessories abound. Skits, karoaoke and other entertainment is also planned . Above is Luttman at a past show.

Take the Campus Dining Survey by May 8

University Dining Services has engaged Porter Consulting Worldwide, Inc. a nationally-recognized independent food service consulting firm, to assist them in examining dining options on campus and in the future University Center. As a part of their assessment of dining service needs for SSU, Porter Consulting has developed a survey that is based on recent focus groups and interviews Porter Consulting conducted at the University.

The campus community is being asked to complete the survey by May 8. As an incentive to complete the survey, the following prizes are offered: Grand Prize: one Nintendo Wii System; First Prize: $100 Dining Services Gift Certificate; Second Prize: $50 SSU Bookstore Gift Certificate. Winners will be drawn from surveys submitted and will be notified by e-mail.

Dr. Henry Shreibman Seeks Common
Ground Between World's Religions

Henry ShriebmanDr Henry Shreibman discusses the shared heritage of three of the most popular religious groups in the United States - Islam, Judaism and Christianity - on Wednesday, May 9 at 8 p.m. in the Student Union Multi-Purpose Room. The event is free. Shreibman seeks the common ground between Islam, Judaism and Christianity, often seen as opponents in their views of God. His lecture covers over 2500 years of religious history showing the customs and traditions that unite the three Abrahamic religions and where they have diverged.

Shreibman is currently an adjunct faculty member at Dominican University of California and the University of California at Davis. In 2000, Shreibman received the Professional Executive of the Year Award from the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, as well as the Kohl Foundation International Prize for Exemplary Teaching in 1987. Throughout his professional work, Shreibman has been cited for his service as an outstanding professional and educator. For more information, phone 4-2382.

Final Workshop on RTP Letters

A final Professional Development Course workshop called "What Does It Mean? Deconstructing Your RTP Letter & Using Your Summer Wisely" will be held May 11, from 2-4 p.m. in Schulz 1121. Carol Blackshire-Belay, Bill Poe, and Paula Hammett discuss the meaning of an RTP letter and Raye Lynn Thomas provide hands-on strategies on various research-related tools.
