New Directions in Teaching and
Technology Subject of May 9 Program

Emerging technologies likely to have a large impact on teaching, learning, or creative expression within higher education is the focus of a "Teaching and Technology Horizons" discussion from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 9 in Schulz 3001. The session will be based around the 2006 Horizon Report, as published by the New Media Consortium and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative. Presenters include: Lou Zweier and Joshua Archer (Center for Distributed Learning), Erin Bower and Geoffrey Skinner (University Library), Barbara Moore (Information Technology), and Brett Christie (Center for Teaching and Professional Development). Presenters will share their expertise, experiences with students, and resource ideas. The event is sponsored by the Center for Teaching and Professional Development, CSU
Center for Distributed Learning, and the University Library.

Jack London Awards are May 10 in Cooperage

This year’s 19th Annual Jack London Awards ceremony will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10 in the Cooperage. The Jack London Excellence in Education awards are given on an annual basis to a K-12 teacher who has made an exemplary contribution to education through development of an innovative educational program in a Sonoma County school. Finalists this year are the Forestville School Drama Program (Forestville School District), Math Lesson Study at Kawana School (Bellevue School District), Outdoor Education Program at Cali Calmécac Charter School (Windsor Unified School District), and Problem Solving Through Chess at the Meadow/Corona Creek Schools (Waugh School District.) The awards program is co-sponsored by the California Faculty Association, the Sonoma County Educators Council CTA/NEA, the California Reading and Literacy Project, the Sonoma County Office of Education, and School of Education, and Sonoma State University. The campus community is invited.
