Reception for Dr. Crabbe Today, 2 p.m.

Katharyn CrabbeA reception honoring Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Dr. Katharyn Crabbe is set for 2 p.m. on Aug. 10 in the University Club. Crabbe retires effective Aug. 15 to spend more time with her husband John and her family. She may return to teaching in the future.

Crabbe has been at Sonoma State University since 1990 when she arrived from State University College at Geneseo, New York to serve as Dean of Academic Programs from 1990-1993. From 1993 to 2000, she was Associate Vice President for Academic Programs and from 2000-2005 she  was Vice Provost for Enrollment and Student Services. Upon the retirement of Vice President Rand Link in 2005, the Student Affairs and Enrollment and Student Academic Services were combined into one division, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and Crabbe became Vice President of that division.

Assistant Vice President for SAEM, Matthew Lopez-Phillips, will serve as interim Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management for one year. A search for the permanent vice president  begins in the fall semester.

Haven't seen it yet? Tour the Green Music Center

Faculty and staff tours of the Green Music Center construction site following school meetings after 3:30 p.m. are being planned. For a look at what the project looks like currently visit GMC Tour. Details on how to reserve a space for the tour will be announced at Convocation.

"Wine Country Welcome" for New Faculty, Aug. 16

A "Wine Country Welcome" is in store for the 20 new faculty coming to campus for orientation next week, Aug. 16. The Professional Development Subcommittee, Center for Teaching and Professional Development, and Academic Affairs will greet 20 new tenure track faculty with orientation activities on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Schulz 3001. A reception follows in the University Club from 4-5 p.m. hosted by President Arminana. The entire campus can meet and greet the new faculty at the first Friday at Four on Aug. 31 in the University Club beginning at 4 p.m. Contact Beez Schell, 4-2678, for more information.

Special Issue of NewsBytes for a New Tradition  

A new tradition at Sonoma State University begins on Aug. 20 as "First Day" welcomes all new students (freshman and transfer students) to the academic life at SSU. It is an opportunity for the students to receive an official welcome from University faculty, staff and students. The event will be the subject of a special issue of NewsBytes on  Wednesday, Aug. 15.
