Paths to Peace Workshops and Lectures at SSU, Oct. 2 and 3

On October 2 and 3 a series of lectures and workshops titled Paths to Peace: Community Action for a Peaceful World, will be presented by Sonoma State University in connection with its War and Peace lecture series. Father Peter Dougherty and Dr. Helen Caldicott will speak. Events begin on Friday, Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room at Sonoma State University where there will be a social reception and a lecture by Dougherty. There is no cost, however reservations to attend are required. On Saturday, Oct. 3, Dougherty will hold a Peace Teams Training workshop, again in the Multipurpose Room of Sonoma State University, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The cost, including lunch, is $10 for students, $25 for non-students. A lecture by Caldicott begins at 7 p.m. that evening in the Evert B. Person Theatre at Sonoma State University. The cost is $5 for students, $10 general admission in advance, and $12 at the door.

Dougherty has served on Peace Team projects in Bosnia, Haiti, and Chiapas and has led many nonviolence trainings in preparation for disarmament actions, against militarism, racism, third world intervention, labor strikes, and many campaigns for positive social change. Caldicott is the founder of the Physicians for Social Responsibility and was its President Emeritus when it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. She has also written her autobiography, "A Desperate Passion", as well as three other books.

Paths to Peace is sponsored by Sonoma County Center for Peace and Justice, Abolition 2000 Sonoma County, the War and Peace Lecture Series at Sonoma State University, Project Censored, Associated Student Production, and the Nonviolent Civil Disobedience Organization.
