Documentary Highlights Womens Discussions of Race, Gender and Class in the United States

A video on Women, Race, Gender, and Class entitled "The Way Home" takes place on April 15 from 6-9 p.m. in Ives 119 at Sonoma State University.

The 90-minute documentary captures conversations by women representing a cross-section of American cultures ( indigenous, Asian, European, African, Arab, Jewish, Latina and multi-racial ) as they speak about resistance, love, assimilation, beauty standards, school experiences and more. Their stories reveal the far-reaching effects of social oppression, while offering an inspiring picture of women moving beyond the duality of black and white. Post-film discussion will be led by Barbara Love, who helped in the making of the film. The video was produced and directed by Shakti Butler for World Trust, Oakland, CA.

Though admission is free, seating is by reservation only. Call the SSU Women's Resource Center, 707/664-2845 for reservations. The film showing is sponsored by SSU's Intercultural Center, the Women's Resource Center, and Extended Education.
