Clay Creations at SSU

Immersed in a fiery oven at thousands of degrees, clay creations make their transformation from wet, supple clay to firm pottery. Students and teachers of the Rohnert Park Community Center's Ceramic Studio have produced their own clay creations and are showcasing their work at SSU's Ruben Salazar Library from September 13 through December 10, 1999.

The exhibit displays more than 100 original pieces from sixteen different artists and ranges from artistic to functional works of art. The styles incorporated into the exhibit are figurative and expressive sculpture, pit fired and raku pieces, and creative but functional works of art.

Lisa Marie Strawter of the Ruben Salazar Library's Special Collections Department remarks, "This exhibit showcases the artistic ability of members of our local community. The exhibit has already received many positive responses."

The Ceramics Studio is part of the Rohnert Park Recreation Department and is located in the Rohnert Park Community Center. The Ceramics Studio offers classes ranging from introduction on the pottery wheel to figurative sculpture. It also has open studio hours for anyone who would like to utilize the equipment for a nominal fee.
