Reverend Cecil Williams To Speak at Sonoma State University

As part of the Holocaust Lecture Series at SSU, Reverend Cecil Williams will be a guest speaker on Tuesday, May 9th, in Evert B. Person Theatre from 4 - 6 p.m. Reverend Williams has been pastor of Glide Memorial United Methodist Church for over 35 years.

As a minister, author, lecturer, community leader and spokesperson for the poor, Williams is recognized as a national leader. In 1998 President Clinton appointed Reverend Williams to the Presidential Commission on Holocaust Assets. At the end of 1998, Glide Memorial Church had a membership of 9,000 and is the most comprehensive non-profit provider of human services in San Francisco. Reverend Williams challenges his congregation to place action above apathy, community above isolation, and the force of faith, hope and love above traditional religious symbolism. On any given Sunday, people from all races, ethnic backgrounds, cultures, classes, ages, religious backgrounds and sexual orientations join together with the 140 voice Glide Ensemble and a 50 member Children's Choir.
