After 16 years as Dean of Extended Education, Dr. David Walls, will return to teaching at Sonoma State University. SSU Provost Bernie Goldstein says, "He has done an excellent job in developing the many successful programs in Extended Education and contributed greatly to the betterment of SSU. We wish David Walls all the best as he returns to the classroom and look forward to working with Les Adler."
Goldstein has appointed Dr. Les Adler interim dean of the School of Extended Education, effective August 15. Adler is a professor of history and former Hutchins School Provost. "Les has considerable experience working with Extended Education on many projects and will bring new ideas, interest and enthusiasm to the job," says Goldstein.
Dr. Nathan Rank replaces Dr. Rocky Rohwedder as director of the Fairfield Osborne Preserve effective June 1. Rank, associate professor of biology, is known as an outstanding scientist in the biological sciences with special emphasis on evolution and considerable experience in field studies promoting involvement of undergraduate and graduate students in field research projects at the Preserve.
Rank will continue the work that Rohwedder, first faculty director of the Fairfield Osborn Preserve and professor of environmental studies and planning started. Provost Goldstein says, "Rocky has done and outstanding job. His diligence, excellent leadership and fund raising ability have contributed significantly to the success of the Preserve. We wish Rocky all the best as he returns to full-time teaching and look forward to working with Nathan."
