DR. RAYMOND CASTRO - Chair / Associate Professor, Chicano and Latino Studies. Ph.D., Harvard University, 1976, in policy studies with a focus on educational issues in Latino communities. LARRY HAJIME SHINAGAWA - Chair/Associate Professor, American Multicultural Center. Ph.D., University of California, Berkeley, 1994.
Acknowledged expert on racial politics, demographics, and census, he has appeared on CNN, NPR, NBC and in the San Francisco Chronicle, Newsweek, Time and the Wall Street Journal.
Areas of study:
* Asian American Studies, Demographics, California diversity - ethnic projections, Multicultural Training, Ethnic Politics, Race and Ethnicity. Recent projects and assignments:
* former director of California State University Census Information Center;
* former Manager of Minority Undercount Research, Center for Survey Methods Research, U.S. Bureau of the Census Headquarters, Washington, DC;
* former Director of Asian American Redistricting Committee (responsible for all of Asian and some of Latino redistricting in the State of California in 1990);
* wrote the Atlas of American Diversity - first book on racial and ethnic diversity in the United States using census data;
* writing books on minority classification systems and intermarriage (Beacon Press and Stanford University);
* trained by Southern Regional Council to conduct redistricting, voter registration analysis, and undercount research.;
* received NIH funding to conduct research on effects of racial classification on health care delivery systems using census data.

Citizenship" (Rowman and Littlefield, 2001) he discusses the demographic growth of Latino/as in the United States from the time of
their military conquest by the United States to the present, and the
