Barbara Butler has been selected as the Dean of the University Library after serving the past two years as interim dean. She provided critical leadership for the move to the new Jean and Charles Schulz Information Center, said Provost Bernie Goldstein in announcing the selection. The pre-planning and post organization of the move took months, but the actual move of books and materials occurred in an amazing three-week period, he said.
"Due to Barbara's unlimited energy and dynamic personality, an excellent staff, and sound planning by all, the University Library was able to open its doors on the first day of classes last fall," Goldstein said.
"Much to the credit of Barbara and the library staff, the University Library has a warm and inviting atmosphere for students, faculty and staff."
From 1994-1999, Barbara was a librarian in the Ruben Salazar Library at Sonoma State. She has held previous library positions at the University of Nevada at Reno, Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kaneohe Regional Library in Kaneohe, Hawaii, Hawaii Loa College in Kaneohe, Hawaii and served as technical assistant at the University of San Francisco.
She earned her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu in 1971 and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science/Economics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada in 1966.
Butler is a resident of Cotati, California.
