Dr. Ahmad Hosseini Named Dean of the School of Business and Economics at Sonoma State

Dr. Ahmad Hosseini has been selected as the new Dean of the School of Business and Economics at Sonoma State University. Hosseini served as interim dean of the School for the past 10 months. He replaces Larry Clark who left the university last year to become dean of the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

At SSU, Hosseini has served as a faculty member and Accounting Coordinator for 10 years. He earned his Ph.D. in accounting (minors in Economics and Management) in 1981 from the University of Missouri-Columbia (1975); his M.A. in Accounting at Ball State University; and his B.A. in Accounting at the Institute of Advanced Accounting in Tehran, Iran (1972).

He has held various professional and academic positions including, Director of Budgeting for Tehran Water Company, Staff Accountant for Arthur Anderson & Co" Managing Director of The Center for Research in Accounting and Auditing in Iran, Chairman and Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Detroit. He is the program's advisor for the accounting program in several universities in Asia. He was a visiting professor of accounting at University of Hawaii Manoa (Summer 1998) where he taught graduate level accounting courses.

Provost Bernie Goldstein said the new dean had been influential in moving the school forward in many areas, including academics, the Wine Business Program, AACSB accreditation, relations with alumni, prospective students and the community.

His research capabilities are well-evidenced by his records of refereed journal articles and scholarly presentations at regional, national, and international conferences in the United States and other majors industrial countries. He served as the president of the Western Region of the American Accounting Association.

He also served as a National Council Member of the American Accounting Association, member of a California State University Task Force to improve the productivity in higher education, and the chapter president of National Association of Accountants.

Dr. Hosseini lives in Santa Rosa with his wife and two sons, both of which are pre-medical students.
