Campus Rec Leaders Honored

SSU students Ryan Fetzer and Heather Dowling were recently awarded the William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Award from the National
Intramural Recreational Sports Association for the 2004-05 year. This is one of the highest awards of recognition available to students involved in campus recreation.

Fetzer, a graduate student in SSU's Teaching Credential Program, and Dowling, a senior in Geography with a Global Studies Emphasis, were selected as winners in Region 6, which represents Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, California, Arizona, Alaska, and Hawaii.

They were selected for this honor based on their work as Campus Recreation Student Program Coordinators and their major contributions to the SSU Recreation Center's start-up planning and development efforts and first-year operations.

In order to be a recipient of this award, candidates need to be active participants, volunteers, or employees of Recreational Sports Programs on university and college campuses. The award, named after Dr. William N. Wasson, NIRSA's founder, is intended to identify students who "set the standard" on campuses across the country.
