Twin Sisters Earn Geology Honors

Senior geology majors Erin and Emily Haney, who are identical twins, have been selected as the 2005 recipients for the top female student award of the Bay Area Chapter of the Association of Women Geoscientists.

The Haney sisters will be honored at a dinner in San Francisco on May 6 with faculty from the SSU Geology Department and their parents in attendance.

Normally, the AWG requests that just one student per geology department from campuses around the Bay Area be honored each year. But this year Department Chair Matt James petitioned AWG for an exception to their policy in order to honor both of the Haney sisters.

During their four years at Sonoma State University, the Haney sisters have proven to be hard working, cooperative, loyal, students in the classroom, laboratory, and during geological field work, James says.
